Isla Beneath the Sea was recorded in 2011, at Casa Aquino, by my great friend Michael Aquino. Isla is the 3rd song in a larger work which I call The Black Spaniard.
Black Spaniard sprang unexpectedly from my guitar in the year 2010, during a few months of unbidden winter-inspiration. It is a small sea of songs which segue into each other, arcing over and back again between English and Spanish; swinging between musical styles formative to my songwriting: Guaracha, Son Montuno, Son Jarocho, Outlaw Country & Rockabilly. A bouquet of sorts to the sounds I ever follow.
I've since performed this conceptual braid of bilingual songs as a "live album" performance, taking great inspiration from such cardinal works as Willie Nelson's The Red-Headed Stranger, Marvin Gaye's What's Going On?, Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, and Manu Chao's Clandestino.
Between its initial recording and the present I've let too much time surpass its completion, and so I aim to get back to this project and release it, that it may be yet heard by those who may appreciate it.
For now, I hope you enjoy Isla Beneath the Sea, which I dedicate to my friends Michael Aquino - a great singer-songwriter who you should check out via:

...and to Jodi Lang, who performed the exquisite cello on Isla (along with the rest of the songs on The Black Spaniard). I thank them both for their patience and I hope to make them proud by finally releasing the entire album soon*.
Enjoy,
Deivito
